SWAMBC AGM News - Keith Hickman takes over as the SWAMBC Chairman from Barrie Stevens and Mike Knight replaces Eddie Grant as SWAMBC Treasurer. Danny Harris stood down as the Small Yacht racing Sec' - Neil Harvey has taken on the job. All other post are unchanged.

The Newsletter Editor Graham Castle has stated his intention to stand down as the Editor in the spring 2009. Anyone who would like to take on this very important job - please contact the SWAMBC Secretary Bill Hickman (see Contacts page)

Racing takes place in the marina of the Excelsior Grand Hotel, Valletta; special rates are available for participants with reception/BBQ/memento etc.

The Fast Electric and Small Yacht racing Championships both start this Sunday 22nd April. Exeter MBC play hosts to the Fast Electric racing "boys", while Woodspring MSC are hosting the first round of the Yacht racing series.

SWAMBC SCALE STEERING - 29th April

The 1st round of this year’s competition will be held in Shepton on the above date. It would be great to see a good turn out from the Drifters supporting the event. What better test for your new boat or to prove how well you can handle your old one. Even if you don’t want to compete come and watch and additional help is always gratefully received. It is with regret that we have to report of the very untimely passing away of a very popular and respected modeller in the South West Chris West. Chris was the main instigator of the modelling part of the Bristol Harbourside Regatta and a member of the Cheddar Steam Club and the Bath MBC. Our thoughts are with Brenda and family.

The paperwork for modellers who attended this years Weymouth Festival should have received them in the post this week. If you intend to attend in 2007 please return the completed form ASAP to have a good chance of obtaining your requested car parking venue. With the cancellation of some of the large national events we are expecting a bumper attendance!! The form will be posted on this site in the next 2 weeks hence priority is given to modellers who attended this year?

It is with great regret that we have to announce the untimely death of Steve Webb yesterday. Steve was a supporter of many events in the South West and was renown for his display and operation of model submarines.

 Our thoughts are extended to his wife Dianne and family

The SWAMBC AGM was held on Sat 14th Oct. Club subscription fees remain same at £20 (£15 if a Club has fewer than 20 members) and so do the Committee members – Chairman Barrie Stevens, Vice-Chairman Malcolm Franks, Secretary Dave Semper and Treasurer Eddie Grant.

Danny Harris has taken over the post of Small Yacht Comp’ Sec’ from Chris Jackson who stood down. Russ Chilcott remains as the Fast Electric Sec’ and Mike Knight continues running the Tug Towing and Scale Steering sections.

Congratulations to Chris Osman (Sedgemoor MBC) who won the Hydro 1 class at the Fast Electric UK National finals held on 3/4th Sept. Also well done to Keith & Bill Hickman (Yate & Sodbury MBC) who finished 3rd & 4th in the Formula 1 class. Lets hope they still come racing in our "little" local series -Round 6 of the SWAMBC Fast Electric Championships are hosted by Yeovil & District MBC on 17th Sept.

26/06/06 Following the cancellation of the SWAMBC Themed event 'PETE's FUN DAY' on 21st May due to inclement weather. Sedgemoor MBC have kindly agreed to reschedule the event now to be held on Sunday 27th August at APEX Lake Burnham on Sea to coincide with the clubs Bar-B-Que day.

22/06/06 All modellers who have registered for the Weymouth Festival should have recieved the information pack in the post. For newcommers to the festival unfortunatley the maps were omitted from the pack but can be viewed / printed from the WEYMOUTH page on this site. Also the fullsize Tall Ships Earl of Pembroke and Kaskelot are planned to be in Weymouth sometime over the festival weekend.

6/6/06  This weekend at Newquay the 2nd round of Scale Steering will be held on Saturday with the 2nd round of Tug Towing on the Sunday. Camping is

available on site from Friday so we look forward to seeing lots of you

1/6/06 Sadly another SWAMBC competition event has had to change venue this time round 3 of Scale Steering. The event will now be held at Collett Park Lake, Shepton Mallet NOT Torbay,on Sunday 25th June. Mike Knight will be OOD.

Scale Steering - new date/venue

In an attempt to keep the Scale Steering series to 5 rounds, Newquay MBC have offered to host a round on Saturday 10th June. This will be a model boating weekend extravaganza with Scale Steering on the Saturday followed by Tug Towing (Rd 2) on Sunday 11th. Camping will be available on the Friday and Saturday nights. The SWAMBC 2006 boating season got underway last Sunday (26th March) with round 1 of the Yacht racing series hosted by the Yeovil Warship Association - it was a little bit damp, but that didn't stop the merry band of sailors from enjoying themselves! 10/2/06 The First South West Ship Show

This event will take place at the Somerset Hall, Portishead on Saturday 22nd April. Traders from throughout the UK will be selling books, photographs, paintings and other works of art, collectables and ephemera, models and kits in various scale, postcards and other items, all with a maritime theme. We hear that Metcalf Models and Mobile Marine Models may well have stands and other model kit traders may also be there. Admission is £3 for adults, £1 for children and OAPs, and further information can be obtained from the organisers on 01275 846178

20/12/05 I'm very sorry to inform you that Brian Wiles passed away last night (20th Dec). As many of you will know Brian had been bravely fighting cancer for many years.

I know you will join us in offering his wife Lynn and son Edward our deepest condolences.

The funeral arrangements will appear here once they are known.

20/11/05  More sad news.... we have been informed of the untimley death of John Pervis late of the Eastleigh & District MBC. John supported many of the SWAMBC events including the Weymouth Festival for many years and was an active member of the Surface Warship Association.
