Scale Steering
The scale finish of a model is not very important, since this is a steering competition and you will not score penalty points for its appearance, but you cannot enter a piece of wood with a prop attached!
At each meeting there will be a course laid out on the lake usually consisting of approximately ten obstacles or gates for each class. On entering you will be given a course drawing, which will show the route that your boat must follow.
There are usually four steering rounds at each meeting. Each boat/entrant receives penalty points for every touch on an obstacle (except for a docking or contact obstacle) and the entrant with the lowest total score from three rounds on the day is awarded points towards the overall championships.
A Course Judge (someone who fully understands the scoring system) will have a course drawing and will mark your boat for penalty points it scores on each obstacle. When entering the Large, Medium or Small Classes, you will have to follow the course drawing and cannot receive any assistance from the Course Judge. Following the course drawing correctly is part of the competition.
The Pilot Class is specifically designed for the new and younger entries. The size of you boat doesn’t matter with all entries usually using the Medium Course. In this class only you can ask for, and receive, assistance/instructions from the Course Judge or anyone else you feel that could help. This will be in the form of verbal assistance and/or directions ONLY – you are the one at the controls and still have to pilot your boat through the course!
You do not have to pre-enter to take part - so why not pop along to the next meeting and see if you fancy having a go – you never know, you might even enjoy yourself!
