Round 1 - Exeter MBC 26th April

Report & scores by Mike Knight

The start of a new season at one of our favourite venues, weather not quite up to usual for Crealy but very pleasant. There were 23 boats from 6 clubs and several new boats. As usual Dave Aylott had set out 2 courses made even more difficult by the gusty winds.

Large class had 3 entries and was won by John Kerr (Pegasus) with his new boat (looks very technical) from Pete Thatcher (Newquay) 2nd and Tony Brooks (Drifters) 3rd.

Medium class had 5 entries including 3 from the host club, Kevin Bellman (Exeter) won with Mike Knight 2nd and Paul Ashton (Exeter) 3rd.

Pilot Class had 5 entries, 4 from Yate and 1 from Exeter. The class was won by the reigning champion Rebecca Tiley from her brother Mark and Malcolm Gillam of Exeter in 3rd.

Small Class had 10 entries from 4 clubs and proved to be a very tight contest, there were no less than 5 clear rounds. The entries also included the Chairman and Secretary of SWAMBC and they finished a very creditable 8th and 5th. The first three were only separated by 2 points, John Kerr won with 1 point from Mike Knight with 2 points and Jean Kerr with 3 points.

My thanks to Dave Aylott and the Exeter club for running the event and we look forward to seeing lots of you for the 2nd round at Clevedon.
